Suspected cigarette robbers nabbed
A group of men suspected of robbing a cigarette dealer crashed their car while fleeing from a private security in Phoenix.
|||Durban - A group of men suspected of robbing a cigarette dealer crashed their car while fleeing from a private security patrol car in Phoenix, Durban on Tuesday.
Police chased the men from Waterloo in Verulam after they allegedly robbed a man delivering cigarettes to shops. Police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, said the man was at Ngcobo tavern making a delivery when three men allegedly robbed him at gunpoint.
“They drove with the victim to an unknown destination… They left the victim unharmed and fled,” Naicker said.
Private security company KZN VIP Unit spokesman, Glen Naidoo, said his patrol spotted a Toyota Corolla and followed it.
Naidoo said the driver lost control of the car in Stonebridge Drive, crashed into a stationary vehicle and hit a fire hydrant. The police dog unit pursued the suspects through nearby bush. “A suspect managed to escape. Police arrested two others. They are expected to appear in court soon.”
Police found boxes of cigarettes in the car. The men are believed to be part of a syndicate robbing cigarette dealers.
