Imports of vehicles to Armenia in the first quarter halved from the year before

YEREVAN, October 15. / ARKA /. Imports of vehicles to Armenia in the first quarter of 2015 halved from the year before, according to figures, posted on the official website of Armenian Customs Service.

They say 10,800 vehicles were imported to the country in the first quarter of the year, down 55% from the first quarter of 2014, when 24,000 vehicles were imported. The customs value of imported vehicles in the first quarter of 2015 slashed by 58% to $62.6 million.

After joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) Armenia received a five-year grace period on the import of vehicles until 2020 from third countries at the old customs duty rate of 10%. Vehicles imported and customs-cleared before October 10, 2014 can move freely on the territory of the EEU, while owners of vehicles imported after that date will have to pay the difference between EEU and  Armenian rates upon entering an EEU member state.

According to the Eurasian Economic Commission, the bulk of vehicles are imported to Armenia from Germany, Japan, Russia and the United States. -0-
