YEREVAN October 15. / ARKA /. Gagik Minasyan, chairman of an Armenian parliament committee  on finance and budget issues from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia , downplayed today opposition’s claims that a package of constitutional reforms  calling for transition from so-called presidential form of governance to parliamentary republic is  forced by the ruling majority and the president.

To substantiate he said the package was backed by the vote of 104 to 10, with 3 abstentions. According to Gagik Minasyan, the voting is an indication of consolidation of political forces of the country, especially that the package was backed also by part of the opposition lawmakers.

"Therefore, the allegations that the constitutional reforms are being forced by the majority of parliament and president are baseless. Now, we can say for sure that in the political field of the country we have a major consolidation of various political forces, supporting the proposed changes,’ Minasyan said.
The referendum is scheduled to take place on December 6. -0-
