Polokwane – Lesiba Kekana, the Limpopo man who allegedly slit the throats of his four children, on Thursday indicated he would plead not guilty.

Speaking through his legal representative, Moraka Rameetse, during his bail application, Kekana told the Magatle Periodic Court that he believed the state’s case was weak as it relied solely on the confession he made shortly after he was arrested.

He pleaded with the court to be released on bail.

In an affidavit read to the court, Kekana lists several reasons why he should be granted bail.

These include that he needed to take care of his house.

“I would like to be released on bail and look after my house, because I was told that my house has been vandalised while am in custody,” said Kekana.

Kekana claimed the State’s case relied on his confession, which he said he would challenge during the trial.

He argued that the fact that the state did not have an eyewitness rendered its case weak.

The bail application was postponed to October 29.

Kekana was arrested on September 6 after he allegedly slit the throats of his four sons at his house in Moletlane, Zebediala.

It is alleged that before Kekana killed his sons, he phoned his wife and asked her to bid farewell to her children. She refused, insisting her children would not die.

Hours later, he allegedly made another call, and made his youngest son tell her his brothers were bleeding.

The four boys, aged thirteen, ten, six and four, were killed on Sunday, September 06 while their mother was in Pretoria.
