Kerobyan: we will try to prevent grain and flour shortages in Armenia

The Armenian government is doing its best to prevent a shortage of grain and flour in the country, Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan told reporters today.

YEREVAN, November 1. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is doing its best to prevent a shortage of grain and flour in the country, Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan told reporters today.

"Food security strategy is being prepared at the moment, which indicates the steps needed to boost food security of the country," he said.

He refused to comment on a scenario that would halt food imports from Russia 'since Russia is a strategic partner and imports continue at the same rate as before.'

He said a government subsidy program was to stimulate the sowing of winter wheat, but its implementation was prevented by the aggression of Azerbaijan in September.

About two weeks ago, Kerobyan said Armenia was developing a food security strategy. Its goals are to achieve high efficiency of business entities (particularly in agriculture), to help organize proper nutrition for residents of the country, especially children. --0--
