Appointment of Tigran Sargsyan will become a springboard for his return to big politics

YEREVAN, October 19. / ARKA /. The appointment of Armenia’s former prime minister Tigran Sargsyan, who currently serves as the country’s ambassador to the United States, as head of the Eurasian Economic Commission next year, will become a springboard for his return to big politics, a political analyst Vigen Hakobyan said today.

The decision was announced at a meeting of the heads of the Eurasian Economic Union member states late last week in Kazakhstan. Tigran Sargsyan will replace Russia’s Viktor Khristenko.

"I think that the return of Tigran Sargsyan to Armenia's politics was actively prepared, and it must be considered as an important factor in the subsequent reshuffles in Armenia", Hakobyan told a news conference today.

This forecast was doubted by MP Tevan Poghosyan from the Heritage party, who said the task of Tigran Sargsyan will be to represent the interests of Armenia in the Eurasian Economic Union during the rotating chairmanship.

He said the reason that may explain the appointment is  Tigran Sargsyan’s close contacts with  different international structures.

Tigran Sargsyan served as Armenian prime minister from 2008 to 2014, and before that he served for ten years as head of the Central Bank.-- 0--
