Durban - A 37-year-old man has been arrested and was expected to appear in court on Monday for the murder of a 58-year-old sangoma.

Norah Koti Khawula was stabbed at her home in Qinabout on the South Coast.

A source, who asked to remain anonymous, said the man had come last week to visit Khawula, who lived alone.

He said the suspect had stayed with her before, although they were not related.

“He killed her because he believed she had bewitched him,” he said.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said the suspect stabbed Khawula several times on her neck and chest.

Her body was later discovered and a case was opened at Gamalakhe police station.

Zwane said the suspect fled Qinabout and went to hide in Hammarsdale where he was found by police. He was expected to appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
