The “slightly decomposed body” of what is thought to be a teenage boy washed up at uShaka Beach in Durban.
|||Durban - The body of what is thought to be a teenage boy washed up at uShaka Beach in Durban on Tuesday.
There were reports of what looked like another body floating a few metres out, but searchers could not find it.
Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said the body, believed to be that of a teenage boy, was found near Moyo Restaurant at uShaka Marine World at 4pm.
He said the Durban search and rescue team recovered the “slightly decomposed body” and said that no other body had been recovered. A sand sculptor said a fisherman had seen the body lying on the beach after it had been washed up.
“Another fisherman said he saw another body floating in the sea, not too far away from the beach. Police came in numbers with boats to search for the other body, but left after they had failed to find it,” said the sculptor.
Fisherman Shane Boddington said he was standing in the water when a fellow fisherman shouted that he had seen a body. “It looked like the man had died about three days ago because the body was in a state of decomposition.
“It had turned pale. We can only speculate how he died,” he said.
