Man killed while chasing hat on highway

The man, who was trying to retrieve his hat which was blown off by strong winds, was struck by a car on the N2 highway south of Durban.

Durban – A man was killed after being struck by a car on the N2 highway south of Durban on Wednesday.

Netcare spokesman Chris Botha said the accident happened near the Doonside offramp shortly after 2pm.

Bystanders told paramedics that the man had run across the road, but lost his hat in the strong wind as he did so.

“Without hesitation he ran to get the hat and landed in front of a vehicle traveling toward Durban,” said Botha.

When paramedics arrived on scene he was lying in the fast lane, but he had succumbed to his injuries before their arrival.
