Nagorno-Karabakh uses renewable sources only to increase electricity production

STEPANAKERT, October 23. / ARKA /. Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) prime minister Araik Harutyunyan and Armenia’s energy and natural resources minister Yervand Zakharyan discussed today in NKR capital city Stepanakert prospects for the development of NKR energy system and co-operation between the two republics.

According to Harutyunyan, Artsakh (the Armenian name of Nagorno-Karabakh) uses only renewable sources of energy to boost production of electricity, the demand for which is on the constant rise.

Harutyunyan said NKR is implementing now several major economic programs, which in turn trigger the rise in domestic demand for electricity. For this reason, in order to maintain the desired level of self-sufficiency level, the government is building new hydroelectric power plants, having achieved tangible success in this area.

Harutyunyan said also the current level of cooperation between the relevant departments of Armenia and Artsakh allows them to share experiences, modernize the energy system of Artsakh and increase its reliability.

The meeting was attended also by NKR deputy prime minister Arthur Aghabekyan, economy minister Andranik Khachatryan and chairman of the NKR Public Services Regulatory Commission Levon Mnatsakanyan.-0--
