Pedestrian killed on Durban’s M4

A man believed to be in his late 30s was killed when he was struck by a car on the M4 in Durban.

Durban – A man believed to be in his late 30s was killed when he was struck by a car on the M4, Durban, early on Friday evening, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

“Crisis Medical paramedics arrived on the scene, near to the Portland Road off-ramp, to find the man lying in the roadway, having sustained fatal injuries. Sadly he was declared dead on arrival,” Crisis Medical spokesman Kyle van Reenen said.

A mother and her two children in the car suffered moderate injuries and were attended to on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital.

“It’s unknown what caused the incident but bystanders allege the man was struck at high speed while attempting to cross the busy highway. The local authorities were on scene and will investigate further,” he said.
