Cops seize two trucks ferrying dagga
Eastern Cape police pulled over two delivery trucks and confiscated dagga worth over half a million rand in two separate busts.
|||King William’s Town – Eastern Cape police on Monday said officers from various units in the province pulled over two delivery trucks and confiscated dagga worth over half a million rand in two separate busts at the weekend.
A tip-off led police to follow a blue truck transporting furniture on the N2 towards Grahamstown on Sunday night.
“PE (Port Elizabeth) K9 and Mount Road SAPS joined the PE Flying Squad members and they managed to bring the truck to a halt on the side of the road and they discovered dagga bags, each weighing 8.5 kilograms, stashed between the furniture,” police spokeswoman Gerda Swart said.
“Members also confiscated an undisclosed amount of cash that was found in the truck.”
Three men were arrested and would appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on drug dealing charges.
Police received another tip-off about a supermarket delivery truck transporting drugs from PE to George – also on the N2.
Officers pulled the driver over about 40 kilometres outside of Port Elizabeth.
“Upon investigation, 25 bags of dagga weighing about 667kg with an estimated value of R667 000 were seized,” Swart said.
The 28-year-old driver of the truck was arrested and made a brief appearance in the Hankey Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning when he appeared on charges of illegal possesion of dagga and dealing in dagga.
