YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. Armenia has secured the 72nd position in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023, as per the report published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under the United Nations on Wednesday.

This marks an improvement of eight positions from last year when Armenia was ranked 80th. In the new index, Armenia has outperformed Azerbaijan (89th) but is behind Turkey (39th), Russia (51st), Iran (62nd), and Georgia (65th).

Switzerland retained the top spot in the 2023 rankings, followed by Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. The lowest-ranked countries include Guinea, Mali, Burundi, Niger, and Angola at the bottom.

The Global Innovation Index, established in 2007 by Cornell University (USA), INSEAD Business School (France), and WIPO, evaluates the innovation performance of 132 countries. The GII, now in its 16th edition, is a crucial resource for assessing the innovation capabilities of various economies. It is published annually and serves as a valuable tool for policymakers, business leaders, and other stakeholders to analyze innovation progress over time.
