Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung on Thursday urged all South Africans to observe the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.

“I urge each one of us to observe this important cause, “in fact, not only for 16 days, but for the full year of 365 days, “ said the Chiefs supremo.

“Since the campaign was adopted in 1998, we have been consistent in asking everybody to support this on the road to create a society free of violence.”

Motaung has called for the soccer fraternity at large to play a role to raise awareness against violence whenever and wherever it occurs.

“Sport plays a pivotal role to influence behaviour in the society,” remarked the Amakhosi Chairman. “We will not tire to get the message about the negative impact of violence in our communities through to our players and supporters. We must eradicate this scourge.”

The campaign started on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25) and will finish on International Human Rights Day (December 10).

“Our players are encouraged to volunteer in support of NGOs and community groups who support non-violence against women and children,” Motaung stressed. “Community engagement is our way at the club. Ask not what the government and other organisations do. Ask what I, as an individual, can do.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs will continue living their values of Love & Peace when they host Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, December 19 (kick-off is at 6pm).

The tickets have already gone on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide at a cost of R60.
