Three held after Crown Mines shootout

Three men were arrested after a high speed chase and a shootout have been charged for vehicle theft and being in possession of illegal fire arms and ammunition.

Johannesburg – Three men were arrested after a high speed chase and a shootout have been charged for vehicle theft and being in possession of illegal fire arms and ammunition, Johannesburg metro police (JMPD) said on Tuesday.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the incident occured along Crownwood Road in Crown Mines at around 11.30 am.

“Officers spotted a suspicious looking silver VW Toureg which refused to pull over but suspects rather started shooting at the officers who returned fire hitting one suspect in the right shoulder and one in the upper back, it was then discovered that the Toureg was stolen in the Jeppe area,” said Minnaar.

Minnaar said one illegal AK47, an Uzi semi-automatic machine gun, and a Star pistol were discovered inside the Toureg.

The injured man was taken to a hospital under police guard and the other two were in custody.
