Nairtobi - A 63-year-old man was rushed to hospital on Friday morning after being attacked by a lion, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) confirmed.

KWS Spokesman Paul Udoto told media that the man was attacked by the lion after it became agitated by motorists hooting along Mombasa Road.

Udoto assured the public that KWS had taken full control of the situation and were driving the lion back into the park.

He asked the public to report any wildlife incidents using the KWS toll free numbers 0800 597 000/ 0800 221 556.

An unverified video showing the lion strolling on Mombasa Road near the City Cabanas Resort went viral on Friday morning.

Residents of nearby residential area, Syokimau, had recently reported that dozens of sheep had been mauled by a lion in the area.

KWS did not comment on the matter, nor did they confirm whether the lion was part of the pride that had escaped from the Nairobi National Park last month.

On his Facebook page, Udoto said: “City residents stay calm and report any wild animal incidents to @kwskenya hotline 0800 597 000. Today’s lion incident resolved well.”
