Cape Town - Kuils River mother-of-two Zarah Hector, 33, has been missing since Tuesday.

Hector went missing when she left work and didn’t take her handbag with her. Various organisations, friends and family are searching for her on social media and on foot.

Hector, a receptionist, had been sleeping over at her workplace, Oostenberg Lodge in Kuils River, since the beginning of the week.

On Tuesday, before her shift started, Hector left to drop her boyfriend’s BMW Z3 convertible in Blackheath. This was the last time she was seen.

Her manager, Denise Baillie, said Hector had said she wouldn’t be long and left her handbag behind.

“A woman wouldn’t just leave her handbag behind if she is going to be away for long. We are all so worried.”

Hector’s boyfriend, Mark Kleinsmith, became concerned when she did not turn up with his car. When he went to Oostenberg Lodge, he was told she had left earlier in the morning.

“Zarah still sent me a WhatsApp message on Tuesday morning at 8.05am to tell me she was on her way. The last time she was online was at 8.13am,” said Kleinsmith.

By Tuesday evening Kleinsmith and the Hector family had reported the incident to the police. Hector’s older brother Brendan, 40, has spearheaded the search.

On Thursday he was still chasing after leads from someone who said they had seen her at a garage in Van Riebeek Road, Kuils River, but it turned out to be a dead end. “As a family we are doing okay, but we are just worried about Zarah.

“The last time Zarah was seen she was wearing white pants, a brown top and sandals,” said Brendan.

Her eldest daughter, 17, is still not aware of her mother’s disappearance. Her family has chosen to keep it from the teenager to help her focus on her matric exams.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said the investigation was ongoing. Anyone with info can call Brendan on 084 229 200 or 021 900 2845.
