Ban Ki-moon cancels visit to Southern Caucasus
Head of the Department of Public Information of the UN in Armenia Armine Halajyan told Mediamax about this referring to information provided by Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General.
UN Secretary-General planned his first visit to Armenia on April 25. Ban Ki-moon also intended to visit Tbilisi and Baku in the framework of his visit to the region.
“According to Stephane Dujarric, Secretary-General was eager to visit the region, however, he has to be in a different place on those days due to urgent issues. Therefore, the dates of a visit to Southern Caucasus will be reviewed,” Armine Halajyan told Mediamax.
The cancellation of this visit means that Ban Ki-moon will not participate in the Seventh Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilisations to be held in Baku. Armenian MFA stated on April 20 that Armenia will boycotte the Forum and will not join the consensus on the Declaration of the Forum. Thus, the Declaration cannot be adopted.
