Government releases 41.7 million drams in emergency aid to flood-hit Artik

YEREVAN, June 30. /ARKA/. The Armenian government said today it will release 41.7 million drams in emergency aid to the town of Artik in northwestern region of Shirak for elimination of the consequences of floods that hit the town last week.

Territorial administration minister David Lokyan recalled that the flooding on June 24 damaged drainage systems, houses and auxiliary buildings, killing also cattle and severely damaging crops.

According to him, the emergency assistance will be distributed to local residents as compensation for the  loss of livestock and damaged crops as well as for repair of their damaged houses. Part of the money will be used on cleaning the town streets and restoring gutters.

The minister specified that 22.3 million drams are earmarked for residents to restore their houses; 2.43 million drams as compensation for the loss of livestock and the harvest and the remaining 16.96 million drams will be spent on cleaning the streets and recovering the gutters.

The minister said also each of the affected resident will receive about 4.6 million drams for the repair of housing, 1.7 million drams as compensation for the loss of crops and 650,000 drams for the killed livestock.

According to him, cleaning of streets is underway now in Artik along with rehabilitation of natural gas and water supply networks. -0-
