Durban – The final push for votes in the August 3 municipal elections in KwaZulu-Natal started on Sunday with the different parties trying to woo the electorate.

In Durban, the African National Congress was hoping to fill the Moses Mabhida Stadium with supporters for its Siyanqoba Rally.

President Jacob Zuma was expected to address the party faithful via a video link to the big screen in the stadium some time in the afternoon.

Outside the stadium traders were hawking their wares, from ANC T-shirts to chicken and pap, while police kept a close eye on events.

A lorry decked out with ANC colours and loudspeakers played music to which the arriving supporters danced as they made their way to the stadium. By 10.30am about 8 000 people had entered the stadium.

Democratic Alliance provincial leader Zwakele Mncwango was was due to head to the ANC stronghold of Inanda in a bid to persuade residents that the DA had more to offer than the incumbent councillors had achieved so far.

In Ulundi, Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi was set to address the party faithful at the Ulundi Stadium.
