Rousing welcome for Maimane in PE

The DA is looking to up the ante in the the metro, sensing a chance to displace the ANC whose majority is razor thin.

Port Elizabeth - DA leader Mmusi Maimane arrived at Port Elizabeth’s Lillian Ngoyi Sports Centre to a rousing welcome from party members and supporters hoping to hear the DA’s plans in addressing the unemployment scourge in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Maimane and the DA have looked to up the ante in the the metro, sensing a chance to displace the ANC, whose majority in the council is razor thin, and polls suggest the ruling party is trailing.

Job creation has been the main focus of the DA campaign ahead of the hotly-contested municipal elections on Wednesday.

DA Ngqura constituency leader and MP Nqaba Bhanga said they were at the KwaZakhele township to “prepare for a battle”.

The election surveys suggest that the DA could win the metro from the ANC on August 3. It’s been reported that the official opposition party has been holding talks with other opposition parties for a possible coalition government to rule the metro after the elections on August 3.
