Durban - The search for 62-year-old Brenda Scriven was suspended on Monday, pending new information which could point to her whereabouts.

Scriven is feared to have drowned after last week's heavy rains.

Marshal Security spokesman Kyle van Reenen said the family on Sundayasked those who had joined the search to stop until they received further information from authorities.

Private companies, community members, friends and family had joined the search for Scriven on foot, in the air, and Police Search and Rescue in the water.

Scriven went missing on Monday night while driving home to Sunningdale from work in Bellair.

Her son-in-law, Lee Swales, had earlier told the Daily News that CCTV footage from a nearby business had shown Scriven struggling with her car, which seemed to be having mechanical difficulties, in the water-logged Chris Hani (North Coast) Road in Glen Anil.

* Meanwhile, police divers recovered the body of a man on Cuttings Beach in Isipingo on Friday.

It is believed to be that of Musawenkosi Mnchunu, who was swept away in uMlazi last Monday. He had been trying to rescue a 16-year-old boy who survived and recovered in hospital.

Police said Mchunu's family had not been able to make a positive identification because of the state of the body. This would be determined by forensics.
