A new stage of political process begins, says Vardan Oskanyan

“A more significant bloodshed was avoided owing to our efforts, and this is the result of the public’s clear demand and “Sasna Tsrer” group’s reasonable and brave decision in the first place,” Vardan Oskanyan said.

He considers it too early for overall estimation of what has happened, touching upon two points nevertheless:

“1. Developments of these two weeks reflected the disappointment, desperation, hopelesness and discontent that has accumulated among Armenian people, as well as growing poverty.

2. Our country cannot be governed in this manner any more, therefore, fundamental changes are due.”

“A new stage of political process begins in Armenia, aiming to form a new, legitimate and efficient government,” Vardan Oskanyan noted, stressing that Unity Party and other political powers are ready to suggest a road map of this process to the public.

Former Foreign Minister of Armenia also attached importance to involvement of Diaspora’s potential into changes in Armenia.

“We should quickly secure the release of those who were detained during peaceful demonstrations in recent days - Armen Martirosyan, Andrias Ghukasyan, Alek Yenigomshyan and others.

Our efforts should be directed on clarifying the circumstances of violence against civilians.

We should secure the punishment of those who organized and carried out the demonstrative and terrible attacks on journalists,” Vardan Oskanyan stated.
