‘Elect the government you want’
African National Congress parliamentarian Gert Oosthuizen urged voters to use their vote to express their preference.
|||Tshwane - African National Congress parliamentarian Gert Oosthuizen on Wednesday urged South Africans to express their view by voting in Wednesday’s polls.
“We are electing local government, which is where services are rendered to our people. It’s extremely important for everyone to come out and to cast their vote,” Oosthuizen spoke to reporters at an Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) voting station in Grootfontein, Pretoria.
“Voters should make sure they elect the government they want. Obviously I want my party, the ANC, to win but this is a democratic election and we have all campaigned very hard.”
The sport and recreation deputy minister said he was confident the governing ANC would retained the tightly-contested Tshwane metro.
Oosthuizen was later joined by Tshwane ANC mayoral candidate Thoko Didiza and they queued to cast their ballots.
