Armenian vine-growing and winemaking fund to start operating soon

The newly established Armenian Vine-growing and Winemaking Fund will embark on an active work soon, Robert Makaryan, Armenian deputy agriculture minister, told journalists on Tuesday.  

YEREVAN, August 10. /ARKA/. The newly established Armenian Vine-growing and Winemaking Fund will embark on an active work soon, Robert Makaryan, Armenian deputy agriculture minister, told journalists on Tuesday.  

The fund has been established on the instruction of the government to boost Armenian wine industry’s products.  

Makaryan said that the fund’s activity will produce results in the beginning of the next year, and now it will start working out Armenia’s wine brand, developing and diversifying markets and organizing participation in exhibitions.  

“Special emphasis will be put on Europe not to be concentrated only on one market, since now we heavily depend on Russia’s market,” he said. 

According to Armenia’s customs service, the country’s wine exports reduced 31.5% from 2,120,700 liters in 2014 to 1,451,600 liters in 2015. 

The customs cost of the wine exported was $4.1 million in 2015 against $6.3 million a year earlier.
Armenia sends 79% of its wine exports to Russia – 1,150,600 liters worth $2.9 million in 2015 against 1,713,800 liters worth $4.4 million in 2014.  

The National Statistical Service of Armenia says the country’s wine output shrank 4% to 5,931,900 liters in 2015. ($1 – AMD 476.14). --0----
