Pretoria - The Department of Transport has distance itself from what appears to be a Government Gazette proclaiming the introduction of new South African number plates.

In terms of the documents, the colour coded number plates were due to be introduced in 2017.

 Ishmael Mnisi, spokesman for the Department of Transport, said they were urging the public to ignore the document while they investigated its source.
