Alexei Bayer: ​Don’t fear Trump, fear America’s social divisions

Recent opinion polls, both national and in key battleground states, have pointed to a massive defeat for Donald Trump in November. True, politics-as-usual has been thrown out the window in the current election cycle and polls may not mean a thing when it comes to Trump. Still, a variety of gauges have registered Trump’s sinking fortunes after the Republican National Convention and a particularly nasty batch of controversies stirred up by the party’s presidential candidate. Not only is Trump failing, but he seems likely to drag many Republican candidates on the ticket down with him. As they wake up to this reality, they are starting to disown him in growing numbers.
