Lusaka - Zambian police were sent to quell rioting by supporters of opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema to the south of the country, after tensions rose over his presidential election defeat, a spokesman said on Monday.

President Edgar Lungu narrowly won re-election, a result his main rival Hichilema rejected on claims of alleged rigging by the electoral commission.
