The man is reportedly being held at the Randburg police station.
Van Wyk said the arrested man would appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court in the next two days.
Susan Rohde, wife of property mogul Jason Rohde, was found with the cord of a straightening iron around her neck in the bathroom of the hotel room she was staying in on July 24.
The Sotheby’s International Realty CEO said at the time that he had tried to open the bathroom door and when he couldn’t he called hotel staff to assist him.
They found his wife with the cord around her neck and were unable to revive her. Police believed it was a suicide, but it became a murder investigation after post mortem results indicated she had been strangled.
The couple had been staying at Spier for a company function.
