Construction of natural gas distribution network in southern Armenia over

YEREVAN, December 15. /ARKA/. Armenia’s ministry of energy infrastructure and natural resources said today that the construction of a gas distribution network for Meghri and Agarak, two Armenian urban communities in the southern Armenia, bordering Iran is completed. It said all the households and enterprises in the town of Meghri and part of households in Agarak will be connected to the natural gas network soon

The construction was financed by a $2 million Iranian grant.  The MoU to that end had been signed in December 2011.

The Armenian side had assumed to pay taxes, customs duties and other mandatory payments for the supply of goods and services. The implementation of the program had been interrupted due to the termination of funding from the Iranian side. The project was re-launched at the end of last year.

Earlier, former Armenian minister of energy and natural resources Levon Yolyan said after the construction of the gas distribution networks, southern regions of Armenia will receive gas from Iran. However, neither the volume not the price are known.

According to Armenian national gas distribution company Gazprom Armenia, there are as many as 5,000 new subscribers in Meghri and Agarak. -0-
