Krasnoyarsk human rights defender protests verdict by slitting wrists in courtroom
Olga Suvorova was charged with making a false accusation (Article 306 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In 2023, she stated that a police officer used force against her and prevented her from entering the police station to see a victim. The court found Suvorova guilty and fined her 125,000 rubles.
Nine hours after the verdict and the incident in the courtroom, Suvorova announced that she had been released from the hospital. She plans to appeal the verdict, and her allies have started raising funds to pay the fine.
Law enforcement officers detained Suvorova in December 2023 after a meeting with the initiative group of former presidential candidate Ekaterina Duntsova. She was subjected to restrictions on certain activities, but these limitations were lifted in January 2024.
In January, Suvorova was also assigned a psychiatric evaluation. Specialists noted that she had been actively involved in public life since her school years and considered this "a deviation from the behavior of an ordinary person."
