Stepanakert mayor under administrative arrest

ArmInfo. The mayor of Stepanakert, David Sargsyan, was changed from house arrest to  administrative supervision, and this despite the fact that the Court of Appeal had previously removed all restrictions from him.

According to Sargsyan's lawyer Ruben Melikyan, the corresponding  decision was made by the courts of general jurisdiction of Yerevan at  the request of the Investigative Committee of the Republic.

Sargsyan is prohibited from visiting leisure and service facilities,  including shops. He is also prohibited from communicating with his  former employees and those involved in the same criminal case. The  entire range of restrictions covers more than 1,700 people. But, he  will be allowed to go out, but from 19:00 in the evening to 07:00 in  the morning he must be at home.

Sargsyan was arrested for 20 days on May 27. He was charged under  paragraph 3 of part 3 of Article 255 and part 2 of Article 457 of the  Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia in the case of theft of  especially large property and forgery of documents (4 cars).

Then, at the court hearing held on June 13, Judge Masis Melkonyan  fully granted the investigator's request and applied a preventive  measure in the form of house arrest for a period of two months  against the mayor of Stepanakert. The Court of Appeal in another  decision declared the mayor's 20-day detention illegal. On July 16,  the Court of Appeal declared the mayor's 20-day detention illegal in  one decision, and in another it released him from house arrest. The  defense considers the case against the mayor of Stepanakert to be  politicized.
