Car bomb and all-night hotel siege kill 26 in Somalia’s Kismayo

Barry churns off Louisiana, New Orleans storm surge lower than feared

Taiwanese president travels to Haiti to bolster relations in the region

PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen will visit Haiti on Saturday in an attempt to bolster support in the region after neighboring Dominican Republic broke diplomatic ties with Taiwan last year. The visit to the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince is the first stop on a 12-day trip to the Caribbean, with St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis to follow.

Tropical Storm Barry shuts 70% of U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil output

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Nearly 70% or 1.3 million barrels per day (bpd), of crude oil production in the U.S.-regulated areas of the Gulf of Mexico has been cut because of Tropical Storm Barry, the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) said on Saturday Natural gas output from offshore platforms in the Gulf has been cut by 56%, or 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, BSEE said.
