Seaman Juan Jose Garcia-Herrera Died in Fall on Nimitz off Coast Of California
Seaman Juan Jose Garcia-Herrera, 21, who fell from one of the ship’s aircraft elevator did not survive his injuries.
Emergency services transported the sailor to the University of California, San Diego Regional Trauma Center but he died around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Garcia-Herrera, a logistics specialist seaman, enlisted in January 2017. He completed training and was assigned to Nimitz six months later, the Sandiego Tribune reports
The ship deployed in late 2017 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, an operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
Homeported in Bremerton, Washington, The vessel, Nimitz, has been conducting predeployment training off the coast of California. A memorial service will be held on board the Nimitz. NCIS is investigating according to Navy Times.
