A sailor shot and killed two civilians then turned the gun on himself at Pearl Harbor Naval Base. Sources have identified the gunman as Gabriel Romero, an active duty sailor assigned to the USS Columbia, according to local Hawaii news (see below for footage)
Rear Adm. Robert Chadwick, commander of Navy Region Hawaii, said the shooting occurred near Dry Dock 2 in the Naval shipyard at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The shooter “has tentatively been identified as an active-duty sailor assigned to USS Columbia,” a nuclear-powered Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine, NPR reported.
An investigation is ongoing and the motives for the shooting and suicide are unknown.
