Another Soldier Has Gone Home.

SOF has lost a relative and the world has lost a great man. Lt. Col George H. Touchard, U.S.Army (Ret.) fought fiercely, but lost his final battle with a brutal, lengthy illness 20 Jan, 2020.

Lt Col Touchard served a lifetime in the U.S. Army along with his wife, Col. Maryjo Touchard. After he retired, he continued tirelessly in service to his faith, his community, and helping the underdog until he could no longer do so shortly before his death. Col. Maryjo Touchard, his wife, was faithfully by his side through his entire final struggle. SOF

His Obituary Reads:

George H. Touchard Jr., age 78, died in Aurora, Colorado on Monday, January 20, 2020 after a long illness.  George was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and traveled the world as a member of the United States Army.  He retired from the Army in 1992.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (former Grand Knight), head of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church hospitality ministry (Saturday 4pm mass), Queen of Peace Parish Council, Vice Chairman of the Fitzsimons Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, a member of the Queen of Peace small faith community and all around good egg. George is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Mary Jo, two sons, Matthew and Daniel, four grandchildren (Izadore, Kix, Fletcher and Clara), two very tolerant daughter in laws (Sumaya Vanderhorst and Carmen Vecchitto), three nieces (Shelia, Claire and Gisele), family and friends in Louisiana and two grand-dogs (Badger and Pia).  George was preceded in death by his mother (Cornelia), father (George Sr.) and his sister (Sharon).

What Pops, (who lived a life full of sharing joy and laughter), would have wanted us to say: George H. Touchard Jr., age 78, died in Aurora, Colorado on January 20, 2020 after a valiant battle against an unrelenting foe.  George was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and traveled the world as a member of the United States Army.  George retired from the Army in 1992 to spend more time annoying his wife and children.  Shortly after retiring, George took a job as the business manager of Queen of Peace Catholic Church to torment Father Bill Breslin. After this stint as Business manager for Queen of Peace, George retired for good. Kind of.  In the mid-1990s, George tried his hand as an unofficial used car dealer.  George would purchase cars hold them for a few months and sell them for a loss.  After the used car business did not pan out for George, he sought to spend the remainder of his children’s inheritance and set out to travel the world.  George and his wife of 47 years, Mary Jo, then travelled the world with friends. Highlights of George and Mary Jo’s travels include being removed from a train and detained in Russia (thanks to their good friends Joe and Fran), Mary Jo spitting at a camel in Egypt (she claims the camel started it), George drinking the “Splendor of the Seas” out of gin and returning home to spend quality time on the couch with Badger.  
A viewing will be held at Horan & McConaty 3201 South Parker Road in Aurora, Colorado on Monday, January 27, from 3-5 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 5 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 13120 East Kentucky Avenue in Aurora.  Internment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
