Police: This man ambushed and murdered two officers in the line of duty on Saturday – they never had a chance.

120 Police officers have died this year compared to 147 in all of 2019, Officer Down Memorial Page reports.

Police say the two McAllen police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty this afternoon by a man who moments later shot and killed himself.

It happened at around 3:30, when the officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home near Queta Avenue and South 35th Street near Los Encinos Park.m

Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said that when the officers went to the door of the home, they were immediately gunned down when they tried to enter.

He said that other police officers drove by to check on the situation, saw what had happened, and also saw a man with a gun.

They screamed at him to drop the gun – but he instead turned it on himself.

The McAllen Police Department identified the officers as Edelmiro Garza, who was an 8 1/2 year veteran, and Ismael Chavez, who had been with the department about 2-1/2 years. 

They said the killer was 23-year-old Audon Ignacio Caramillo.

“We have lost two brave public servants who sought only to keep peace in our City,” Rodriguez said via text message Saturday, according to The Monitor.

Lt. Christopher Olivarez is the spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Earlier this week, two officers were shot in Reno, Texas.

A Sheriff”s Deputy and a police officer were shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Thursday. 

The shooting occurred at 6:12PM while officers were responding to a call in the 800 block of Harris in Reno. The call was placed by a mother who said her son had a gun and was threatening to shoot people.

Officers were shot at as they arrived at the residence of the suspect Lain Christian. A Sheriff’s Deputy was shot multiple times and an officer was shot once in the arm. The  Deputy was transported to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth while the officer was taken to Azle Hospital. Both have since been released and are expected to make a full recovery.

Christian also shot his teen sister, Sierra Christian, to death in the house. The burned body of the 17 year old was found as detectives went through the house Friday morning. Christian was found dead with self inflicted gunshot wounds in the bushes near the home.
