Senator, president of the local NAACP, more slapped with felony charges for involvement in violent protests

L.Louise Lucas President Pro tempore, Senate of Virginia. Representing the 18th District.

Sen. L. Lucas, Virginia, along with the president of the local NAACP chapter, a school board member and other notables, face felony  charges, as well as conspiracy, Portsmouth Police Chief Angela Greene told reporters.

“Lucas, NAACP President James Boyd and Vice President Louie Gibbs, School Board member LaKeesha “Klu” Atkinson and four others were charged with felony injury to a monument and conspiracy. Public Defender Brenda Spry, two attorneys from her office and three others were charged with felony injury to a monument. Each charge carries up to five years in prison,” Pilotonline reported.

The incident occurred back on 10 June when the Portsmouth PD reported “The Portsmouth Police Department is asking all citizens to avoid the area of Court Street at High Street as they disperse demonstrators and investigate an incident that resulted in a citizen getting injured.”

The citizen is reported to have life altering injuries.

Governor Northam shrugged aside the charges as political. “It’s deeply troubling that on the verge of Virginia passing long-overdue police reform, the first Black woman to serve as our Senate Pro Tempore is suddenly facing highly unusual charges. @SenLouiseLucas, I look forward to seeing you in Richmond tomorrow—so we can get to work,” Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted.

Some blame the police for not protecting citizens they are charged to protect.

“Chief Angela Greene says no order from her was ever given for officers to ignore the destruction of property. Rather…an elected official directed them to let vandalism of the Confederate monument to occur @WAVY_News reported.

Obviously 74 year old Sen Lucas, a long time Black rights activists, also made a mockery of the charges. She has many supporters who believe the charges are bogus as she was not seen as personally involved in the violence.

“I am estatic to announce that I have been chosen as Biden campaign surrogate,” Sen Lucas tweeted.
