Sheriff of Wauwatosa County Sends Message. We hire Cops to deal with violent offenders, not Social Workers
His agency screwed him over after he had “too many” shootings – which were all completely justified. Luckily for this officer…. a sheriff had his back. Let’s show him that we do also.

Former Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah, who was forced to resign after three justified shootings, has been hired by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. Lawenforcement today reported, adding:
“I have concluded along with Milwaukee DA, Wauwatosa PD, Milwaukee PD, as well as an independent investigation conducted by Wauwatosa Police and Fire commission that Mr. Mensah’s use of force was consistent with the Federal and State laws, Wisconsin training and uniformly applied police policy. This is consistent with all other investigations. Mr. Mensah will enter a supervised field training program where he will be afforded the same opportunities as every other Deputy working for the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office. the Sheriff said.
Two months ago, Mensah was forced to resign from his police department, but on Monday he was sworn in as a sheriff’s officer. Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson put out a press release on Jan. 26 confirming he hired Mensah:
A Wauwatosa, WI, Police Officer was involved in three separate justified shootings, however he was still placed on suspension on July 15th, after members of one of the families complained to the administration.
Rather than having the back of an officer who was cleared in court of any wrongdoing, the agency instead offered him a sizeable amount of money to leave the agency for good, and he accepted, Former Wauwatosa Police Officer, Joseph Mensah agreed on November 17th to resign from the agency after accepting $125,000 in a severance package. The Police Department and city, despite all three shootings being ruled justified in court, caved to public pressure and asked him to leave the agency.
“I have extended an employment offer to Mr. Joseph Mensah, which he accepted, for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Mr. Mensah progressed through an extensive, thorough and exhaustive hiring process.
“While some have expressed concerns about Mr. Mensah’s past uses of force, I assembled a team who exhaustively reviewed Mr. Mensah’s previous work history., Lawenforcement Today full articles can be found HERE
