Alec Baldwin accidentally kills Director of Photography, Halyna Hutchins, wounds another with prop gun on set of Rust
Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed actor Alec Baldwin, who is producing and starring in the film, discharged a prop firearm that killed the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins. The injured man, confirmed to be the film’s writer and director Joel Souza, left hospital after receiving treatment, news last night cNN! fix and other media reported.
“The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust,” the Santa Fe sheriff’s office said in a press release late Thursday. “Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor,” MSN also reported.
“According to investigators, it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged,” sheriff’s spokesman Rios told the Albuquerque Journal. “Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged,” NPR reported.
Alec Baldwin was reported to be anti gun. Responsible gun owners or users, in any circumstance have, need professional training, and need to abide by strict rules always, of insuring a firearm, prop or not is safe, and that the gun is not loaded if ever pointed at someone.
Indeed this is a tragedy for all involved.
