Human Remains Found After Driver Arrested LVNPD

On December 23, 2021, at approximately 3:42 p.m., LVMPD Patrol officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a truck near Tropicana Avenue and Duneville Street. The driver failed to stop and fled from units. The air unit was able to follow the truck and noticed the driver switched trucks. Officers once again attempted a vehicle stop, but the driver fled a second time. The air unit followed the vehicle and was able to guide officers to an apartment complex near the 4200 block of West Rochelle Avenue.

Officers approached the vehicle and observed the suspect, later identified as 57-year- old Eric Holland, exiting the truck. Holland threw various items at officers in an attempt to flee, but he was taken into custody.

During the investigation, officers were able to determine both trucks had been previously reported stolen. In the bed of one of the truck officers discovered human remains.

“The officer opened up one of the ice chests and discovered a human head inside that ice chest,” Metro homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said with 8newsnow

“The severed head was in one chest; pieces of a man’s body in others. We’ve recovered evidence that shows that he purchased tools that were used to dismember the victim’s body and then placed him into several ice chests that we recovered during the initial arrest,” Spencer said.

LVMPD Homicide has taken over the investigation. Through the course of the investigation detectives identified Holland as the suspect in the homicide. Holland was transported to CCDC where he was booked for his outstanding warrants and open murder. This is an ongoing investigation.

The LVMPD is investigating the first officer-involved shooting of 2022, which occurred near Russell Rd and Broadbent Blvd.

LVMPD Investigates 1st OIS of 2022
On January 6, 2022 at approximately 10:26 a.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a call of a burglary in progress in the 6700 block of Frances Celia Avenue. The caller stated the suspect was armed with a knife and was banging on the front door of the residence. The caller also advised that the suspect slashed the tires of a vehicle and that he was last seen walking away on the sidewalk.
Responding officers located the suspect walking in the 5100 block of Broadbent Boulevard. The officers engaged the suspect and issued verbal commands, which he ignored. The suspect then produced a knife and charged at an officer. That officer fired his handgun at the suspect, striking him. Medical personnel responded and transported the suspect to Sunrise Trauma where he was pronounced deceased. No other persons were injured.
This is the 1st officer involved shooting of 2022. Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
