Reports out of Germany suggest Borussia Dortmund could join the queue to take an unwanted midfielder off Tottenham’s hands, but only if they can sell one of their own first.

Dortmund want a leader in midfield

Tottenham are looking to offload a number of players this summer, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg thought to be on the list of potential exits. And now, it seems he could be heading back to Germany.

According to Sport BILD, Dortmund are unhappy with the performances of Emre Can and Salih Özcan last season and are looking to upgrade their options in the middle of the park, with Hojbjerg regarded as an option.

Apparently, the Bundesliga outfit are “interested” in the Spurs man, who could be allowed to leave North London for a “small transfer fee” due to the fact he is no longer in Ange Postecoglou‘s plans.

Borussia Dortmund like the look of Hojbjerg

Hojbjerg is described as a “leader” for his country, and could be seen as the man to replace either Can or Ozcan in the number 6 role. But, Dortmund will need to sell one of the two players before they look at Hojbjerg.

Still, those departures are not necessarily planned, but if they were to “unexpectedly” move on, Hojbjerg is thought to be open to a move out of England.

The Dane played 39 times for Spurs last season, though most of his appearances were from the substitute bench or as cover for injuries.

A move to Dortmund could be really good for Hojbjerg. I honestly believe that, wherever he goes next, he will be a big success and he could definitely flourish in Germany or Italy.

That said, he could still do a job for a different Premier League team if given the chance, though I think he would rather be involved with a top club somewhere in Europe.
