Report reveals the maximum Tottenham would pay for Conor Gallagher this summer
Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea this summer, but they have a very specific fee they are willing to pay for the midfielder, and here’s why.
Tottenham comparing Gallagher to Maddison
Apparently, Spurs have barely changed their stance on Gallagher‘s valuation since last year, and they are using James Maddison as the bar by which they are judging the Chelsea midfielder.
That’s according to GiveMeSport, who claim Spurs had valued Gallagher at around £35m at this time last year, and “they have no plans to go too far north of this” now.
Spurs paid £40m for Maddison last summer, and they would only want to pay “a similar price” for Gallagher this time round.
The Lilywhites are willing to go roughly £5m higher than their preferred fee of £35m from a year ago as they accept that Gallagher “has risen in value due to form” over the last 12 months.
How do Chelsea feel about Conor Gallagher?
As for Chelsea, it is thought the Blues’ estimation of Gallagher’s price is around £35-40m and that, while they are not as desperate to sell as they were a month ago, they are on standby in case Spurs make a move (90Min).
There has been a suggestion that Spurs might not even want to sign another midfielder this summer after acquiring Archie Gray (Rank FC Ultras podcast).
However, Ben Jacobs told The Last Word on Spurs that Ange Postecoglou may see Gallagher as a leadership figure, and would be especially keen to bring the England international in if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were to leave the club this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
If we could get Gallagher for £35m it would be a pretty good signing. I can’t see Chelsea letting him go that cheap, to be honest, but £40m would be the absolute limit I would pay for him.
