Porro started the season with a goal against Leicester

Tottenham slumped to a frustrating draw away to Leicester City in the opening game of the season. While Spurs’ frontline struggled to capitalise upon their domination, defender Pedro Porro came up trumps, heading home the opener.

Porro’s goal was his seventh in the Premier League since joining Tottenham, meaning that no other defender has more goals than the 24-year-old since the start of the 2022/23 season, despite him only joining the division in January of 2023. (@StatMuse on X)

There was a late injury concern for Porro as the Spaniard was seen limping for a prolonged period of time towards the game’s closing stages, eventually being substituted while clutching his ankle in pain.

Spurs have released a video of Porro in training

Concerns understandably arose over Porro’s fitness following his ankle issue against Leicester, although those worries have since been extinguished after Spurs tweeted a video of Ange Postecoglou greeting his players in training, with Porro featuring.

The video shows Porro following behind Sergio Reguilon, who perhaps surprisingly received a big embrace from the Tottenham manager.

Porro’s inclusion in training suggests that he could be fit to face Everton at home on Saturday.

Tottenham’s visitors on Saturday are facing injury worries of their own with The Athletic revealing that Sean Dyche could have as few as fourteen first-team players at his disposal following a fresh injury to James Tarkowski.

Spurs Web opinion

The impressive displays of Djed Spence in pre-season does elevate the pressure placed upon Pedro Porro this season, although it will be encouraging for Spurs fans to learn that Porro remains an option after the Spaniard appeared to be in great discomfort against Leicester.

Spurs need a statement victory in their opening home game against Everton on Saturday after ruing their missed chances on Monday night.

With the visitors having an injury-hit squad and Tottenham having Porro as an option, it should provide the perfect opportunity for Postecoglou’s side to secure an important opening home win.
