Who is David Pleat?

Pleat had multiple spells as Tottenham manager, taking charge of the club for the 1986-87 season and the 2003-04 campaign while also having a couple of spells as caretaker manager at White Hart Lane in 1998 and 2001.

He joined Spurs as a scout in 2010, informing the club about the best-emerging talent in the EFL, a position he held for 14 years before vacating it this summer.

In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the 79-year-old revealed that the Lilywhites denied him the chance to sell his memoir in the club shop and did not even allow him to make a presentation at the venue.

Pleat’s wife Maureen passed away from a degenerative form of motor neurone disease in 2020 and part of the profits from his memoir, which is titled ‘Just One More Goal’, will be donated to charities seeking a cure for the disease.

Tottenham finally change their stance

However, Buhagiar confirmed that Tottenham changed their stance and hosted Pleat at the stadium for the clash against Arsenal.

They will also ‘support’ Pleat with his book in order to raise as much money as possible.

It is disappointing that it took social media outrage for Tottenham to change their stance, and many will understandably feel that this is nothing more than a PR exercise from the club.

However, it is good to know that Pleat is now getting the support he deserves from his long-term employers.
