Troy Parrott netted four goals for AZ Alkmaar as they thrashed Heerenveen 9-1 on Sunday, just months after he swapped North London for the Netherlands.

Troy Parrott was once Tottenham’s academy gem

For a long time, Parrott was seen as a potential first-team prospect at Hotspur Way but unfortunately, the centre-forward did not develop the way Spurs would have hoped, struggling to make the expected impact during his loan spells in the EFL.

However, the Republic of Ireland international did impress during his loan stint with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie last term, which convinced Alkmaar to pay £6.7m to secure his services in the recent summer window.

Parrott did not have the easiest of starts to life at AFAS Stadion, going goalless in his first four league games for his new club.

However, the former Tottenham man more than made up for it in his fifth game for his new side, announcing himself to the home fans with four goals against Heerenveen, who were on the receiving end of a 9-1 walloping.

Ironically, Spurs will come up against Parrott and Alkmaar later in the season, having been drawn against them in the Europa League league phase.

This should take all the pressure off Parrott’s shoulders and will fill him with a lot of confidence.

If the striker continues banging in the goals for Alkmaar, he could find himself back in the Premier League before long as there has never been any doubt of the quality of his finishing.
