Gray has been made to wait for his Spurs chance

Leeds United youth starlet, Archie Gray, made the switch from West Yorkshire to North London this summer, favouring a move to Spurs over Brentford (The Athletic).

Despite costing Tottenham £40m, Spurs are yet to have a close look at the teenager who has played just 30 minutes of football so far this season. Gray comes highly recommended though, with former manager Daniel Farke describing him as ‘phenomenal’ (Leeds Live).

Gray may be hopeful of earning a chance in the coming months with Tottenham having to grapple with a fixture schedule of two games per week for the next three weeks.

Reports suggest Gray could start against Coventry

GiveMeSport report that Archie Gray’s chance to start for Ange Postecoglou could come as soon as Wednesday with Spurs travelling to Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, just days after a gut-wrenching 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

The report details that Postecoglou perceives the tie with Coventry as a low-risk opportunity for the ex-Leeds midfielder to make his debut, with Gray being familiar with facing Championship opposition.

Gray isn’t expected to be the only alteration to Postecoglou’s starting eleven on Wednesday with GiveMeSport claiming that the Australian is expected to make a handful of changes to the side that fell to defeat against Arsenal on Sunday.

Spurs Web opinion

The away tie to Coventry in the Carabao Cup is the ideal stage for Archie Gray to step into the Tottenham midfield and provide, what I believe, is exactly what Tottenham have been missing so far this season.

While the teenager won’t directly be creating chances, he does progress the ball forwards very effectively, be that through passing it forwards or going on a rampaging run, as the teenager did frequently against Chelsea last season in the FA Cup.

Gray has been patient for his chance but this game, against Championship opposition that he is familiar with should be the perfect scenario for Gray to shine and hopefully make his mark and compete for a permanent spot under Postecoglou.
