Glenn Hoddle reveals where Heung-min Son ranks in list of Spurs legends
Glenn Hoddle believes that Son Heung-min ranks very high on the list of the greatest players to have ever played for Tottenham.
Records now tumbling for Son
Son is now the face of Tottenham Hotspur, with the forward now into his tenth season at the North London club and having been appointed captain a little over a year ago.
Records are now starting to tumble for the South Korean, who is now in fifth place in the list of Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorers.
The 32-year-old now also has the second most assists for Spurs in the Premier League era, sitting just three assists away from the record holder, Darren Anderton.
Where does Son rank among the greatest?
Hoddle believes that Son is now up there with the greatest to have ever worn the Lilywhites shirt.
The 66-year-old, who knows a thing or two about what it takes to achieve legendary status at the club, suggested that the current Spurs captain is among the top six or seven players to have played for the side.
When asked who Tottenham’s greatest legend is, Hoddle told TNT Sports 1 (26/9/24 – 19:50): “Amazing players. Harry [Kane] has got to be right up there and there’s Gazza and Klinsmann, Teddy Sheringham.
“You’re going back, but for me, Jimmy Greaves was something special. I was only young, I was eight or nine when I first came to Tottenham to watch them and he was sensational.
“It was a little bit like George Best where when he got the ball there was a crackle, a real anticipation in the stadium that something was going to happen and I think they are the type of players who get you off your seat and get you excited. You want to be a footballer because you have watched that type of player.”
Where he would put Son amongst the greats, he added: “I think he is right up there. I would put him well in the top six or seven.
“There are so many good players, there are players like Dave Mackay and Blanchflower, fabulous players right through to this era. I think Harry Kane is right up there as well.”
Son plays down legendary status
Son himself refuted suggestions that he is a Tottenham legend in an interview with BBC Sport last month.
The forward insisted that he could not put himself in that category unless he leads Spurs to silverware, adding that he is determined to do so.
Ange Postecoglou will certainly love hearing that from his captain, with the Australian wanting to establish a winning mentality at the club.
