Tottenham star makes WhoScored Premier League Team of the Week
Just one Tottenham player makes it into WhoScored’s Team of the Week on the back of the Lilywhites’ convincing win at Old Trafford.
Excellent performances across the pitch
Ange Postecoglou would have been delighted with what he saw from his side on Sunday, with nearly all of his players producing outstanding displays.
The first-half performance, in particular, was something to behold, with the away side showing just how dominant they can be when they are at their best, with Man Utd struggling to get out of their defensive third.
One player stands above the rest
However, one player delivered what was arguably his most complete performance in a Tottenham shirt so far.
The player we are referring to is Dejan Kulusevski, who is now making the number eight role his own in this new-look Spurs side.
The Swede not only worked tirelessly to win the ball high up the pitch on several occasions but he also constantly ran at the United defence and was involved in some lovely link-up play outside the opposition box.
The 24-year-old also did the dirty work defensively, tracking back time and again to help Rodrigo Bentancur and the Spurs backline snuff out any danger.
Unsurprisingly, he has been named in WhoScored’s Team of the Week, with the Tottenham man being handed a match rating of 8.73.
New lease of life
While Kulusevski’s quality was never in doubt, he had underperformed over the last two seasons and some even questioned if he is a natural fit for the wide role in Postecoglou’s system.
The decision to move him to the number eight role has been a masterstroke as it has allowed the former Juventus man to showcase his full array of skills, and influence games much more.
While it is still early days, it looks like Kulusevski is set to go from strength to strength and finally start fulfilling his potential.
