Johnson came off social media after Spurs’ defeat to Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur forward, Brennan Johnson, made the move to deactivate his Instagram account last month following what was believed to be abuse from fans after Spurs’ home defeat to bitter rivals, Arsenal.

Ange Postecoglou publicly backed Johnson after the events, stating to BBC Sport: “But he [Johnson] comes here every day, he’s working his backside off, he’s asking for feedback, he’s doing everything right, he’s trying so hard to become the player he wants to be. It’s hurting him a lot.”

Since removing his account, Johnson has hit red-hot form, smashing in five goals in his last five games. His most recent goal came last night off the bench against Ferencvaros and secured Spurs their fifth straight win.

Yves Bissouma sheds light on Johnson’s tough time at Spurs

Following Johnson’s goal, which proved to be the winner in Tottenham’s Europa League trip to Hungary, Yves Bissouma, who is on a redemption arc of his own, has expressed his delight for Johnson’s impressive run of goals.

He told Spurs’ in-house media team: “That’s the way you have to react, you know after a lot of things, he was sad – but it’s normal. He knows the way to react, I’m very happy for him. We’re really proud of him because he trains very hard every day, every session”.

“Five games, five goals, what can you say? Be happy for him [Johnson] and yeah try to make the team continue in that way, I’m really happy for everyone, the way were working, the way the coaches make us work, we have to continue like that and we’ll have to see in the future.”

Bissouma added: “We’re very happy and proud of what we’re doing right now. We’re just going to work hard to continue working this way.”

Brennan Johnson looks confident now

Brennan Johnson’s rise to importance and sudden switch of form in the past five games has been a welcome surprise.

The Welsh winger has always shown that he can carry out Ange Postecoglou’s instructions of staying wide and firing in low crosses, with many fans believing that’s why the Australian stuck with the £50m man. But, his recent showings have unveiled a level of performance perhaps many fans didn’t foresee.
